Cost of Living
Below are some general details about the cost of living at Meadowsong Ecovillage. Some think it is really cheap, while others may find it expensive. Our non-profit mission includes providing affordable housing and supportive community programs for residents.
Rent: Rent amounts are determined based on square footage and amenities. These vary considerably with different types of units. Some units have bathrooms, kitchens and laundry while others are simple cabins with access to shared amenities. Utilities are included for all units except Apartments, which pay for their own electricity through EPUD.
$250-500 – Camping/Dorm
$400 – RV/Tiny Home sites
$500-1000 – Cabins
$500-1500 – Apartments
See our Vacancies page for current availability.
Food: THE FOLLOWING IS NOT CURRENTLY HAPPENING: Lunch and Dinner are served in the Lodge most weekdays as a buffet of delicious organic, vegetarian food. Residents participate in meal plans ranging from $60 per month (two meals per week) to $390 per month (Full Meal Plan). Children age 10 and younger are half the adult price. Residents are required to be on the 5 meals/week plan for the first three months of residency, with exceptions available for special dietary needs. After the first three months, residents can go down to the minimum meal plan ($60/month for two meals per week). Discounts can be earned by signing up for a cook or clean shift.
Site Maintenance Fee: Each adult (18+) residing here pays $100/month for the Site Maintenance Fee. This covers costs associated with cleaning and maintaining shared spaces and shared resources such as soaps, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. The fee covers the costs of the HIVE program, our system for collective care of our community, such as cleaning shared bathrooms and kitchens, governance responsibilities, land management, etc.
Internet Fee: Each adult (18+) residing here pays $15/month for the Internet Fee. There is wi-fi available to all facilities, including lodging spaces, across campus. To ensure the community can cover the cost of maintaining internet access, we all contribute.
Vehicle Storage: Each household may have one vehicle. There is a $25 extra vehicle fee for households with more than one vehicle. Solplex (an onsite apartment building) residents are allowed two vehicles per household. Storage of a Recreational Vehicle (RV) is $75/month.
Housing Swap: Residents wishing to move from one lodging space to another pay a $25 fee to cover associated administrative costs.
Utilities: For most spaces, rent includes utilities; for some spaces electric is a separate charge. If electric is included, rent changes depending on the number of occupants. There is no charge for water, though a number of our spaces do not have indoor plumbing. A few spaces have wood stoves, but wood is not provided. Propane for amenities included with the unit is no extra charge, if applicable.
Laundry: Some rental units include washer and dryer hookups, while others use shared laundry rooms. Laundry prices are posted in the laundry rooms (about $4 total to wash and dry each load). Residents are encouraged to line dry clothes whenever weather permits. Laundry can be paid in cash or added to monthly rent invoices.
Discounts: Participation in the Community Cooking Program earns a discount on the Lodge Dining Program. HIVE Program participants earn credits for chores done to care for common spaces or other community functions. HIVE roles range from $10 to $50 in monthly credit.
