Donate to the Forest Garden Nursery

The mission of our Forest Garden Nursery is to provide a complete selection of the most useful native and non-native plants for Northwest forest gardeners – students, teachers, and food-fanatics alike. We envision filling our backyards, our neighborhoods, and our country-sides with a lush abundance of useful, edible, and beautiful plants that we can rely on for our future. Working with our neighbors and friends, we can co-create inspiring landscapes that feed our creative souls and our bellies.

Forest Gardening is a new type of agricultural. Inspired by ancestral forms of food production, and informed by modern ecological understanding, Forest Gardening uses a pallet of perennial plants from around the world to create dynamic, beautiful, and productive food systems that take care of themselves. It is currently at the frontier of conversations about what it means to create truly sustainable and integrated agricultural systems for the long term.

Forest Gardening challenges our cultural ways of approaching the natural world and inspires us to ponder what it means to “garden like a forest”. And in the process, we naturally realize our intuitive way of being in the landscape, and create edible ecosystems that eventually require very little effort from us. What’s more, it can begin anywhere by anyone, and as an education center, we naturally share all that we do. Food, fiber, fodder, “farma-cueticals”, and fun!

Budget for first year, 2012:
We plan to start humbly in our first year, relying on our patience and diligence – and the vitality of our organic soil – to propagate and multiply our plant stock into the future. Here is a basic break out of our first year budget:

Price Item
$700 Potted and Bare-root Plants
$600 Propagation materials (cuttings, divisions, layering, rootstock, and seeds)
$325 Potting Soil (bark, compost, sand)
$300 Small Supplies (labels, pots, pallets, weed-mat, hand tools, etc.)
$275 Hoophouse/Misthouse

TOTAL
$2200

Thanks for your interest and help!
Sincerely,
Justin Michelson, leader of the
