Children and Pets

Children

We have various numbers and ages of children living here, and we value and honor the roles of children in our lives and culture.

Some of our children are home schooled and public schooled (Pleasant Hill School District), while others attend charter or private schools in Eugene.

We ask parents to be proactive and honest with the rest of the community about their expectations about interactions between the children and community residents, and the ways in which the parent(s) are expecting support from the community.

Children and parents will pick up toys and dishes left in the lodge and on the property and put them away in agreed upon places. Parents must be extra vigilant of the ways that their children are leaving spaces, treating Lost Valley or others’ personal property, or affecting community gatherings, business meetings or events that we are hosting.

No bikes, wagons, or other toys will be left on the pathways, as they create a potential hazard in the dark.

Kids' space in public areas will be left in relative order after children have been playing there.

*Quiet time during meals for 45 minutes. No loud voices, running or roughhousing.*

Pets

We are unlikely to consider new members who have pets.  Dogs can frighten and injure wildlife and sometimes behave unpredictably around the large number of conference guests, including young children, who regularly flow through Lost Valley. Cats have a severe impact on the native small mammals and birds. We might consider an indoor-only cat. Small indoor animals, such as parakeets, hamsters, rabbits and goldfish are unlikely to present a problem. Any prospective new pets have a "trial period" to determine if they will make good community members.  There is a $50 pet deposit.

There is a limit of 4 cats and 4 dogs for the entire property. Outdoor cats that kill birds should wear a bell.  Indoor cats preferred. Visitors are to keep their dogs on leashes.  If there are behavioral problem with an animal, such as jumping on children or aggressive behavior, pet owners will be held responsible and the community reserves the right to ask that the animal not live here. All pets must have vaccinations and be spayed and neutered and must follow Lane County law in regards to licensing, registering and tagging pets.

All pets/non-service animals residing on Lost Valley (Landlord) property shall be subject to an additional agreement between Lost Valley (Landlord) and Lessee/s.

Assistant/Aid Animals are accepted. Residents with service animals shall sign an Aid Animal Addendum; provide proof of liability insurance, and proof of medical authorization.
