Social Permaculture and Community Design

EDE Ecovillage Design Education Certificate and PDC permaculture Design Certificate

Receive your Ecovillage Design Certificate in this exciting course!  This special program incorporates concepts in permaculture and the community living experience with the Ecovillage Design Education Curriculum.

The first week of this five week program is the Sustainability Seminar, giving participants an introduction to the broad topic of 'sustainability'. During the second week, the social permaculture and community design students will work alongside the Permaculture Design students, gaining a holistic understanding of nature's systems and how to blend the human footprint into nature in a way that strengthens and sustains both.

The last three weeks will focus on community issues such as non-violent communication, facilitation, and community organization, culminating in the ecovillage design project, where students design their own hypothetical community. Participants who successfully complete this course will gain an Ecovillage Design Certificate.

Five Week Program

This five week program explores what it means to live as an individual and a community in a way that is sustainable for the planet Earth. This program is designed for those seeking a combination of both academics studies of community and a personal life experience in community living and development.

Following the curriculum developed by UNESCO for the UN backed ‘Decade of Sustainable Development’ activities include discussions, individual and group projects, field trips and actual participation in community activities both on the Lost Valley site and in the larger Oregon community. This program includes training in non-violent communication, facilitation, and community organization. Interacting and forming bonds with your fellow participants.  Overcoming the differences and learning to accentuate the commonalities, is part of the experience of this course. The community building lessons of this course can apply to any level of ‘community’ development, from the intentional community, to the neighborhood, to a more harmonious work place.

During the first week of the Full Program participants take the “101” Seminar on sustainability alongside participants from all of the Camassia Programs.

Students should arrive on Sunday before courses begin by 6 pm for dinner and an orientation. Classes begin on Mondays at 8:30 am.  Departure is the Saturday following the last day of class.
